Chasing Curiosities through Literature and on the Trail
When we began our homeschooling journey, I bought all the recommended curriculum only to find my children disengage. Soon our lessons became just one more chore to check off our to do list. Something had to change, so we did what many families do – we took a “break” and returned to the simpler things that filled us with joy. We spent lots of time outside tuning into the little miracles around us and we cozied up several times a day to read great books.
There’s nothing more powerful than storytelling to connect us and make sense of our world. We started to use our stories, from picture books to chapter books, as an entry point to exploring new questions and activities in science, geography, history, art, music, and nature studies. Our authors inspired us to try out new literacy devices in our own writing. Along the way, we also met characters that shaped our hearts and mind and challenged our beliefs and values.
We invite you to join us as we chase our curiosities through literature and on the nature trail! On this blog you will find our book play activities, nature unit studies, and curated book lists if you are looking for your next read aloud suggestion. In our Etsy Shop, you will also find our Curious Trails: Family Literature and Activity Guides inspired by living books that invite us to explore not only beautiful language, but are filled with hands-on S.T.E.M. activities, handicrafts, art invitations, and more. Wherever the story leads us!

Meet Jacqueline
I grew up in the city but I’m a small-town girl at heart. Now we live in a little village on the lake in Ontario with our two spirited girls who are 5 and 8.
I’ve been a teacher, tutor for the school system’s reading programs, and now a homeschooling mom! Our homeschool is influenced by Charlotte Mason. You’ll see an emphasis on time in nature, cozy read alouds, encouraging big questions, values, and relationship. I also write the Nature Subject for Harbor and Sprouts subscription family style curriculum.
