DIY Book Page Paper Roses

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to add a touch of creativity and beauty to your homeschool. This year, we’re making book page paper roses – a simple, hands-on craft for the whole family. These DIY paper roses are not only a charming upcycled craft, but also a wonderful way to weave learning into the holiday.

How to Make Book Page Paper Roses

what you need:

• old book pages
• scissors
• small paint brush
• glue
• twig

what you do:

1. Creating your Petals: Start with a square piece of book page paper. Fold it in half diagonally to make a triangle, then fold it again by bringing point to meet point to create a smaller triangle, and once more a third time.

2. With your scissors, round off the open edge to form a petal shape. Cut the tip off the triangle end.

3. When you unfold the paper you’ll have a lovely, symmetrical flower shape. Cut one petal section from the first flower shape, a section with two petals from the second flower shape, and a section with three petals from the third flower shape. You will have six petal pieces of various sizes.

4. Form the Petal Cones: Take each cut flower shape and glue the two open ends together to form a cone.

5. Create your Rosebud Center: Take the single petal section and roll it tightly into a small spiral. This will be the heart of your rose. Secure it to the end of your twig with glue.

6. Soften the Petals: To give your petals a more natural look, gently curl the edges using the end of your paintbrush or your fingers.

7. Assembling your Rose: Begin with the smallest cone and place it inside the next largest one, securing it with a dab of glue. Continue layering from smallest to largest, gently adjusting the petals as you go to create a natural look.

8. Attach the Stem: To finish your rose, feed the twig with your rosebud heart through the center of your petals. Secure with glue.

Your book page rose is ready to brighten your space! Arrange in a vase, or make a whole bouquet to celebrate this Valentine’s Day together!
